VOLUNTEERS
The AVYAA program is run 100% by volunteers. Without
volunteers we wouldn't exist, so it's vital to have
parent participation.
Parents are required to volunteer
a minimum of 15 hours per season. If you are on a
scholarship you are required to volunteer a little
more. A participation buyout of $150 allows a family
to be exempt from volunteering duties.
Each team will provide a master volunteer signup form
prior to the beginning of the season.
Announcing
One person – needs to be comfortable speaking to the
crowd with a microphone. Needs to have strong
football knowledge and the ability to read referee
signals. Must remain unbiased and announce both teams
equally. Needs to arrive fifteen minutes prior to
game.
Chain
Gang
Three people – hold chain or field marker on the
opposing sideline, move chains when instructed by the
referee. Must remain unbiased and cannot cheer from
the sideline. Needs to arrive ten minutes prior to
game
MPR
Two people – MPR stands for Mandatory Play Rule. Each
football participant must play a minimum amount of
plays; the number of plays is dependant upon the size
of the team. One MPR monitor stands on the opposing
sideline with an MPR sheet that is provided by the
opposing coach. As players go in for plays or come
out of the game the monitor records the activity on
the MPR sheet. The other MPR monitor stands on the
home sideline and spots for the opposing team's MPR
monitor who is monitoring our team. Watch for players
going in and coming out and report it to the monitor.
Needs to arrive fifteen minutes prior to game. Your
duty is complete when all players have met the MPR
requirements.
Snack
Bar
Four people – there are many duties in the snack bar,
from barbecuing, money handling, dishes, food
preparation and contact with the public. It is very
important that you are on time and courteous to the
public. Please report for your shift with about five
minutes left in the game prior to your child’s game.
This allows the outgoing parent to leave in a timely
fashion and meet up with their child. If you were on
the first snack bar shift of the day you would report
one hour before your child’s game time. The last
shift of the day would stay until all clean up is
done.
Score
Board
One person – this duty is to run the scoreboard and
time clock. Must have football knowledge and the
ability to read signals from the referee. Need to
report fifteen minutes prior to game time.
EMT
One person – must be doctor, nurse, trained EMT or
fire personnel with first-aid / CPR certification.
Duty consists of standing on home sideline during
home games and assessing any injury that may occur.
There are twelve positions to fill per game, four
games per day and four home games in a season. There
are also four away games where we provide two MPR
workers. Doing the math you find there are two
hundred positions to fill throughout the season. As
you can see the need is great in order to have a
successful season. By working together, we all
participate in the success of this program.
Coaches and board members are exempt from
participating in the above duties.
Merchandise
One person per game– responsible for selling Almaden
merchandise at all home games. Table is set up near
the snack shack.
