A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
We wish to welcome all of you to
another exciting year of Pop Warner Football &
Cheerleading. This year AVYAA hopes to place a
special emphasis on sportsmanship. With all of the
violence in professional sports along with some of
the college sports, sportsmanship must be the number
one priority. I hope all of you will be aware of his
priority and when an act of sportsmanship is observed
please recognize this and applaud these fine
athletes.
The games are for youth not professional athletes.
Good conduct refrains from being unsportsman-like
toward team members, coaches, fans, and officials.
AVYAA is asking that all fans, team members, coaches
and officials be treated with respect. Remember rude
or inappropriate remarks toward team members, coaches
and officials does not show support and is not
acceptable behavior. Please keep this in mind during
the games.
Thank You!
Introduction
Welcome to AVYAA (Almaden Valley Athletic
Association), Pop Warner Football/Cheerleading. This
handbook is designed to answer any questions that you
may have about the league and serve as a reference
guide throughout the season. We hope that your
children have an exciting, positive football and
cheering experience.
Pop Warner Youth Football and Cheerleading is a
national affiliated Youth Football/Cheerleading
association known as Pop Warner Little Scholars Inc.
Currently it has 370,000 players and participants
nationwide. Almaden Valley Youth Athletic Association
is part of the Pacific Southwest Region and south
division of Peninsula Pop Warner Conference. This
means that in regular season play, we compete against
any of the following teams:
We normally play eight regular season games, with
four home and four away, plus a jamboree. Practice
begins Aug 1st with games beginning the first week in
September and going through October. This is subject
to change. The Cheer Competition and Football
Playoffs go from the conference level all the way up
to the National Championships; this could possibly
extend the season to mid December.
Goals and Philosophy
Pop Warner Football/Cheerleading is an international
program operated for the benefit of its youthful
participants. Since 1929, the program's philosophy
has been "Academics and Athletics go hand in hand".
At every level, Pop Warner seeks to develop
well-rounded young men and women who learn not only
the fundamentals of football and cheerleading, but
also the importance of education, in an atmosphere
conducive to developing sound mind, body and
character, and having fun along the way.
The general objectives of Pop Warner
Football/Cheerleading are to inspire youth to
practice the ideals of sportsmanship, scholarship and
physical fitness as reflected in the life of the late
Glenn Scobey "Pop" Warner. The program stresses
learning lessons of value far beyond the playing or
cheering days of the boys and girls involved: such as
self-discipline, teamwork, concentration, friendship,
leadership, and good sportsmanship.
With such goals in mind, and by providing an
opportunity to participate in an organized,
supervised environment with emphasis on maximum
safety and participation. Pop Warner
Football/Cheerleading offers young men and women a
unique experience.
